Rain Waffle does not require sign-in or registration. All features are accessible immediately upon launch.

Location

If you allow location access, Rain Waffle uses your location on your device to show nearby weather and choose the relevant HKO forecast area. The notification service does not receive or store precise coordinates. For a current-location alert, the app sends only a coarse HKO grid-cell identifier that it quantizes on your device; that cell expires after six hours unless the app refreshes it. You can instead choose a named Hong Kong district.

Optional rain notifications

If you turn on rain alerts, the app sends Lyfar Studio's notification service an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token, your alert choices (minimum rain, lead time, and sound), and the named districts or coarse HKO cells you choose to track. The device token is encrypted at rest and used only to address the notifications you request. Waffle does not use advertising identifiers or build an advertising profile.

Retention and deletion

Notification subscription data is kept only while the subscription is active. Turning off rain alerts asks the service to delete the token, preferences, tracked places, and pending rain candidates. Invalid APNs tokens and expired rain candidates are removed by scheduled maintenance. Subscriptions that the app has not refreshed for 90 days are also deleted. If you uninstall before turning alerts off, APNs eventually marks the token invalid; you can also contact us to request deletion.

Weather and map data

Rain Waffle shows live Hong Kong rainfall and map tiles from public data and Lyfar Studio infrastructure. Short-lived rain candidates are calculated from HKO forecasts only to decide whether an opted-in alert is due. Network requests may be processed by normal hosting logs for security, debugging, and reliability, but those logs are not used for advertising or user profiling.

Third parties

Cloudflare hosts Waffle's service, and Apple delivers notifications through APNs. Their processing is governed by their own privacy terms. Rain Waffle does not sell personal data and does not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
